There is no cure for lipodystrophy and the effects of treatment vary from person to person. There is only one FDA approved treatment for Generalized Lipodystrophy (Myalept) and there are no approved treatments for Partial Lipodystrophy. Other tools that vary in efficacy include diet and exercise, traditional therapies for metabolic syndrome such oral and injectable diabetes treatment, hormone replacement therapy (approved for generalized only), statin therapy and cosmetic options. Typically, traditional therapies are not effective and individuals need close monitoring. New research and treatment options are extremely necessary.
